SOS Proisland, the great concert of Colombian artists that achieved 13,000 million pesos for San Andrés

Hurricane Iota devastated the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina last weekend, leaving this island region of the country seriously affected. One day after the events were recorded, the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, announced that only in the case of Providencia, the infrastructure had been 98% destroyed.

“The damage to infrastructure, which we could also appreciate from the overflight, is practically a destruction of 98% – 99% of our infrastructure”, said the president.

Faced with this, initiatives that seek to contribute to the reconstruction of the archipelago have multiplied and in this way, help the victims affected by the natural phenomenon, that touched Colombian territory on November 16, reaching the dreaded category 5 on the Shariff Simpson scale.

This Sunday, November 22, it was the Colombian artists who came together to give a hand in the restoration of the islands. With the SOS Proisland concert, dozens of national musicians performed the best of their art to raise funds that can assist the archipelago at this critical moment.

The campaign was supported by the Colombia Cuida Colombia initiative and according to the figures published on its web portal, the show, which was held virtually, managed to raise 13,000 million pesos in cash and in kind.

The concert took place from 2:00 pm this Sunday and It was led by the island musician Elkin Robinson. It also had the participation of great stars of Colombian music such as Carlos Vives, Juan Pablo Vega, Andrés Cepeda, Fonseca, Monsieur Periné, Yuri Toro, Ana del Castillo, La Perla, Chabuco, Juanes, Kamarada Alert, Buxxi, Silvestre Dangond, Mister Black, Adriana Lucía, among others.

According to Colombia Cuida Colombia, the show had 300,000 people connected with the transmission, which could be enjoyed through the Facebook Live of Pro Archipiélago, a non-profit foundation, which, according to its web portal, “is aimed at the implementation of socio-economic models that favor the sustainable development of the Archipelago Department, in order to to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants ”.

The initiative, in turn, had the support of 300 partner organizations and companies, Among which were Spotify, Youtube, The Latin Recording Academy and Claro Música.
