What made the annoyance clear was the tone that President Iván Duque used when addressing the official, who asked him to deliver a meticulous balance of how the delivery of humanitarian aid and the installation of tents for victims of the Hurricane Iota in Providencia.
“I want to be very frank and very demanding with what I am going to tell you: I hope that tomorrow we will have all the tents installed, which arrived today, and that you inform the country about the meticulous delivery, in each of the nine points of the island ”, said Duque, in his“ Prevention and Action ”program.
The Director of Risk Management, Eduardo González, let the Head of State know that he himself was coordinating the delivery of the tents, and that until the afternoon they had delivered “412 tents”, of which “there were approximately 125 installed …”.
Duque interrupted him and asked him, simply: “How many are you going to install tonight?”
“President, you are going to get up early. They went to work until 7:00 at night and, since there is no power, the other (tents) were going to be installed tomorrow during the day… ”, replied the official, who was interrupted again.
“My instruction on this is clear,” said Duque, and continued: “Before noon they must all be installed. When do the other 2,500 arrive? “
“They are already in Catam, president, and if they send them tonight, tomorrow we will begin to distribute them …”, stated González.
Duque, for the third time, interrupted his official, whom in 2018 he had already entrusted the management of the project for the reconstruction of Mocoa.
“You answer me personally for that tomorrow, and you inform the Colombians here in this space,” Duque told him, pointing a finger at him.
“Sure, president. Yes sir, that is the idea, to be able to deliver them because that is the main need that each of our inhabitants has there: be able to have a roof, and receive your food and counseling kit. And much progress was made today ”, concluded the official.
