The Election and Coronation Night of Miss Universe Colombia 2020 began with the presentation of the 30 candidates in bathing suits, who represented various departments of the country in the contest that was held in Barranquilla and presented by the actress, Valerie Domínguez, and the actor, Sebastián Carvajal.

This time, the scores of the jury, made up of Luz Helena Restrepo, Miss Colombia 1967, Pilar Guzmán, public relations officer, Amalín de Hazbún, fashion designer, and Catriona Gray, the woman who was crowned Miss Universe in 2018, were not visible to the public as on previous occasions, so the decision was only known until the first announcement of the night.

The first group of 16 finalists chosen by the jury were: Casanare, Atlántico, Huila, Cartagena, Norte de Santander, Cesar, Amazonas, Caldas, Valle del Cauca, Bolívar, Antioquia, Nariño, Meta, Santander and Quindío, who was the one that obtained the most votes from the public; After this, the women paraded in full dress to the rhythm of Mr. Black and Pipe Peláez, who presented their new song ‘Te Tengo ganas’.

The six finalists chosen to face the final stretch and answering the questions of the jury were Norte de Santander, Jenifer Pulgarín; Cauca, Barbara Rodríguez; Quindío, Yeraldine Grajales; Bolivar, Laura Olascuaga; Santander, Laura Lamus; and Amazonas, Dayana Cárdenas; After their answers, the three finalists were chosen who, to the surprise of the public, were not the favorites of the Colombians. Santander, Bolívar and Norte de Santander, were chosen by the jury.

The candidates had to answer the question “Why should you be the next Miss Universe Colombia 2020?”, which was the last obstacle before the verdict where Laura Lamus, Miss Santander, was chosen as the first princess, Jenifer Pulgarín de Norte de Santander, as viceroy and, finally, as queen and new Miss Universe Colombia to Bolívar’s candidate, Laura Olascuaga, who had already been chosen as Miss Elegance in previous days.

Olascuaga, the social communicator and journalist by profession, will represent Colombia in the next edition of Miss Universe to be held in the first quarter of 2021 in the United States.
