Gustavo Petro hinted that Claudia López bought potatoes from intermediaries and not from peasants

The days of the ‘papatón’, which has been held since November 13 at seven tolls in Cundinamarca and some points in Bogotá, so that citizens can buy the product from producers without the need for intermediaries and help them To cope with the crisis due to oversupply and imports, he has given something to talk about on social networks.

One of the reasons why it has been a trend is the success in sales: as of November 15, the income of the growers, for the 28,000 packages sold, was $ 1,000 million, according to the Government of Cundinamarca. The other thing that has generated debate is a post on Twitter, by Senator Gustavo Petro, In which a photo of the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, appears with a bag of potatoes on her shoulder.

“When the potato is washed and in a plastic bag, it is a sign that it is intermediary potato and not the one sold directly by the peasant. The intermediaries of the potato are with the current governor of Boyacá, ”wrote the senator from Human Colombia on Twitter.

The image that Petro shared of the mayor was taken by the Mayor’s Office on November 14, in a day in which residents of the capital were called to buy potatoes in the peasant markets arranged in different parts of the city .

After the publication of Gustavo Petro, the comments of hundreds of users did not wait. According to some of them, his trill points out that the peasants are not able to sell washed and packed potatoes.

Nicolás García, governor of Cundinamarca, who proposed the idea of ​​supporting paper farmers with the sale of their products at tolls, made it clear from the first day of the Papatón that one of the value bets was to sell the potato already washed. And this has been done in different parts of the department.

Product of this campaign, which is a short-term solution for farmers, they have been able to sell the potato bundles for $ 40,000, when, days ago, they were doing it for between $ 20,000 and $ 25,000, otherwise, the intermediaries would not buy them, according to what the union told the media.
