Carlos Queiroz, the Portuguese who today serves as the technical director of the Colombia National Team, attended the media prior to the trip of the Colombian National Team to Quito, where next Tuesday he will face Ecuador on the fourth date of the Qualifiers.

The Portuguese coach harshly criticized the VAR. This he did above all, since Queiroz considered that in the match against Uruguay a maximum penalty on Luis Díaz was no longer sanctioned and on this he commented that “We do not understand how it is possible that the referee did not whistle a penalty on ‘Lucho’ ( Díaz) at minute 35 ”.

And he added regarding the refereeing in that match “I have to go out to defend the work of my players. The referee did not call that penalty at minute 35, being four meters away, it is almost criminal, it outrages me. But at 40 meters he sees a clear penalty from Jeison (Murillo) ”.

So then, the coffee grower strategist was quite annoyed, because, regarding the VAR issue, he stated that “There is a tragedy that came to football and that no one can understand, a disease that I call COVAR.”

And in this regard he concluded: “The referee has to give an answer to the Colombian Soccer Federation. It is the first time that I speak of the referees and I do not do it to excuse myself, but to put a warning. It is not the first time this has happened to Colombia ”.

Meanwhile, the strategist assured that both he and his team arrived in Ecuador with the mentality of scoring points and highlighted the character of the group. In addition, he pointed out that they themselves have been the most self-critical after the defeat.

So then, in front of the Ecuadorian team, he praised the great moment it is experiencing and the quality of football it expresses, in addition to the scoring power of Gustavo Alfaro’s team; However, he recalled the friendly played last year in US territory where Colombia ended up winning.

For his part, the Antioqueño coach Pedro Sarmiento, criticized Carlos Queiroz and his performance that the team has played in front of the Portuguese.

The comments were made after the 0-3 defeat against Uruguay in Barranquilla, on the third date of the Qualifiers. Sarmiento assured that with the Portuguese at the helm he has not seen a good game for the national team.

“I have not seen a good game for the Colombian National Team since Queiroz is here,” said Sarmiento, who declared himself concerned about the team’s game and the coach’s impossibility of forming a team that can follow his work plan.

“I haven’t seen a Colombian National Team play with a body, with soul, with structure, with partnerships, with tactical work, which is the job of the coach,” he said.

The Antioqueño also pointed out the responsibility of the players on the playing field and assured that given the short time before the next game, on Tuesday against Ecuador, the most important thing now is to lift the group emotionally.
