Chocó is in a health emergency after the catastrophic consequences of the heavy rains. This winter season is leaving unfortunate postcards in various areas of the country.

The heavy rains were recorded on the night of Friday, November 13, and affected the Chocó territory with river overflows and landslides in different municipalities.

Rafael Bolaños, Head of the Chocó Disaster Risk Management Office, reported the unfortunate news of the death of a 14-year-old minor in Carmen de Atrato due to one of the landslides.

“The sector most affected is in Carmen de Atrato, where there were multiple landslides. There are reports of destroyed homes and affected roads,” Bolaños said.

Bolaños indicated that, in the municipality of Lloró, a pedestrian bridge that communicated that area with its administrative part was collapsed by the rising Andágueda River.

The winter emergency has affected other territories in the country such as Dabeiba, in Antioquia, and Cartagena. In addition, San Andrés is in a state of alarm before the passage of Hurricane Iota.

As of Sunday night, more than 700 families were reported affected by the winter emergency. They request urgent help.
