Emergency in Dabeiba, Antioquia: landslide leaves 3 dead and at least 12 missing

The Municipal Council for Disaster Risk Management of Dabeiba, Antioquia, reported in the early hours of this Saturday, in a preliminary way, the death of three people and the disappearance of at least 12, in the middle of the emergency due to a landslide, after hours of heavy rains in the municipality.

Relief organizations that traveled to the site reported that the difficult conditions of the collapse have made it difficult to rescue and search for survivors.

“Since dawn our team has been going by land to Dabeiba to support the attention of various events due to rains. Another team will leave by helicopter to reach the places without access due to the landslides and to know the level of damage ”, said the department of disaster prevention of the department of Antioquia.

For his part, the mayor of the municipality, Leyton Urrego Durango, confirmed to La FM Radio that there were totally destroyed houses, which were washed away by the water and were buried under the rubble of mud and rocks.

“At this moment they confirm to us that we have a dead elderly adult, after being left among the ruins of his house, who came upon him”, detailed the mayor of Dabeiba.
