In an epidemiological strategy in which anyone with symptoms is considered suspected of having the new coronavirus and is isolated or treated under the criteria of covid-19, the director of the San Ignacio University Hospital, Julio César Castellanos, states that every week between 20 and 30 workers enter this protocol.
The objective, according to Castellanos, is to separate the workers in the face of the slightest suspicion of the patients and their environment to avoid potential contagions given the characteristics of the work they do in a hospital that handles multiple pathologies.

The idea is that these people go home under rigorous isolation measures with the accompaniment of the Ministry of Health. All are tested. If positive, they are subject to this handling. And if not, they return to their duties.
In cases in which, due to the absence of symptoms or for some other reason, the test has not been performed, these workers cannot return to work before a 14-day quarantine.
“What is intended is to go one step further in the protection and prevention of infections that may get out of hand in an entity of these characteristics, under the premise that all hospitals have the task of caring for covid-19 patients and at the same time to do so with the highest security measures, “says Castellanos.

With this strategy, the director points out, only two workers have required hospitalization with good progress, 34 positives have been detected since March 11, most of which are already recovered and the rest are at home and without complications. At the moment, at least 20 more people are isolated.
Castellanos concludes by saying that under this criterion, some workers have returned to their tasks with the certainty of being free of the disease and with the certainty of not representing a risk to patients.
“I can give peace of mind to the community in general and to that of the hospital on the health security that Hospital San Ignacio currently has,” he concluded.
