700 new cases of covid-19 this December 11, Colombia reached 1.4 million

Colombia reached 1,408,909 cases of covid-19 since the pandemic arrived in the country in March of this year, according to the epidemiological bulletin of this Friday from the Ministry of Health.

The health authority reported 8,998 infections in the last 24 hours, in which the country’s laboratories processed 53,152 tests, 32,431 PCR and 20,721 antigens.

Of that number, 700 positives were confirmed in the municipalities of Valle del Cauca. The region has accumulated 117,941 infections of the disease since the pandemic reached the department.

The ten regions with the most infections were Bogotá (3,123), Antioquia (1,224), Valle del Cauca (700), Santander (383), Cartagena (341), Cundinamarca (328), Barranquilla (326), Norte de Santander (298) , Boyacá (263) and Quindío and Tolima (255, each).

The health authority also reported that 7,879 patients recovered from the disease and 185 died in the country from the virus, 160 of them more than 24 hours ago. In the Valley, 23 deaths from the coronavirus were confirmed, most of them (14) in Cali.

The other deaths were registered in Tuluá (3), Palmira (2), Buga (1), Cartago (1), Pradera (1) and Vijes (1). In total, 3,774 people have died in the Valley due to covid-19.

At the national level, the number of recovered amounts to 1,304,299 and the number of deceased, to 38,669. There are currently 62,592 active cases.

Colombia ranks tenth in the world in the number of infections, behind the United States, India, Brazil, Russia, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Argentina according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

In deaths, the country ranks twelfth, behind the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Iran, Spain, Russia and Argentina.

The Colombian authorities remain alert to the high occupancy percentage of the Intensive Care Units nationwide. Norte de Santander (92%), Valle del Cauca (80%), Antioquia (76%), Santander (71%) and Bogotá (70%) are some of the regions with the most critical outlook.

So far, however, the National Government has not raised the option of returning to strict isolation, and maintains the strategy of selective isolation, asking citizens to act responsibly and maintain self-care standards.
