The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation demonstrated in court that Héctor Albeidis Arboleda Buitrago, alias El Enfermero, committed serious behaviors against human rights, performing abortions on an undetermined number of women who were part of the ELN and the so-called Guevarista Revolutionary Army (ERG ).
In this sense, the Second Itinerant Specialized Court of Pereira (Risaralda) sentenced alias El Enfermero to 40 years and 9 months in prison, as responsible for the crimes of forced abortion in protected person and torture in protected person committed in homogeneous competition.
The abundant evidentiary material compiled by a prosecutor from the Specialized Directorate against Human Rights Violations evidenced that Arboleda Buitrago committed a crime between 1997 and 2004, in the departments of Risaralda, Caldas, Antioquia, Chocó and Valle del Cauca.
In the course of the investigation, nearly 40 testimonies of victims were collected, many of them minors, Embera Chamí indigenous people and Afro-descendant communities. All the statements coincided in stating that: “Aka The Nurse was being sold to the highest bidder. He acted as a ‘mercenary’ who indiscriminately interrupted pregnancies for the sole purpose of making a profit, a profit from pain and putting the lives of women at serious risk. ”
Precisely, the Office of the Prosecutor in its different interventions indicated that the defendant acted deliberately, systematically, and massively against the rights and dignity of women. For the specialized judge, this argument was fully demonstrated and ordered that Héctor Albeidis Arboleda Buitrago serve the prison sentence.
