Homeless beggars begged for alms when leaving the establishment and the company that delivers the lottery prize is the Française des jeux (FDJ).
“They were asking for alms near the (bar) at midnight in Brest and a customer who was leaving the place gave them the ticket that he had just bought for one euro,” the company said in a statement.
“It was a huge surprise for the four young beggars when they realized that they were not earning 5 euros, but 50,000 eurosThe company noted.
The four young people in their 30s shared the profit, or 12,500 euros each, according to the FDJ.
“They were shocked, but they had very clear ideas,” said the FDJ, which also sponsors an elite cycling team to the AFP agency.
They told the national lottery company that they do not know for now what they are going to do with the money, except in principle to leave the city of Brest.
