1,137 new cases of covid-19 and 33 deaths this December 26

For the fourth consecutive day, Valle del Cauca registered more than 1,000 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

This Saturday, the region recorded 1,137 infections of the disease, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Ministry of Health.

The department thus reached 132,781 patients who have contracted the coronavirus since the pandemic reached the region in March of this year.

In addition, this Saturday 33 new deaths from the virus were confirmed in Valle del Cauca, 14 of them in Cali, the capital.

The other deaths were recorded in Tuluá (5), Palmira (4), Buga (3), Seville (2), Buenaventura (1), Candelaria (1), Cartago (1), Jamundí (1) and Versalles (1) .

In total, 4,146 people have lost their lives in Valle del Cauca due to the coronavirus. The highest number of deaths (2,658) have occurred in Cali.

The department remains on hospital red alert, as a result of the high occupancy of the Intensive Care Units, ICU, which exceeds 90%.

In addition, of the 1,057 ICU beds enabled in the Valley, 129 are not available due to lack of sedative and muscle relaxant medications, according to the report presented this Friday by the Ministry of Health.

For this reason, the departmental administration has taken measures such as the suspension of scheduled surgeries, the curfew, the dry law and the peak and ID until next January 4.

Covid-19 in Colombia

At the national level, the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Health reported 10,196 new cases of the disease, 13,332 recovered and 253 deaths, of which 226 died more than 24 hours ago.

The country’s laboratories processed a total of 32,294 tests in the last 24 hours, 23,800 of them PCR and 8,494 antigens.

The ten regions with the most positives were Bogotá (1,978), Antioquia (1,867), Valle del Cauca (1,137), Tolima (670), Cartagena (535), Risaralda (517), Barranquilla (416), Cundinamarca (403), Santander (385) and Norte de Santander (271).

The total number of cases in Colombia reached 1,584,903, of which 94,682 remain active. 1,444,041 patients have recovered from the disease and 41,943 have lost their lives.

Covid-19 in the world

Worldwide, 80,182,793 cases have been registered as of this Saturday afternoon, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Of that number, 45,262,486 patients have recovered and 1,755,556 have died.

Colombia is the eleventh country in the world with the most cases of covid-19, according to data from that educational institution, below the United States, India, Brazil, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Italy, Spain and Germany.

In deaths, Colombia is ranked 12th worldwide, behind the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Iran, Russia, Spain and Argentina.
