The National Government announced a reward of up to $ 100,000,000 to find those responsible for murdering four people in the rural area of Santander de Quilichao, Cauca.

Of the four people who lost their lives, two were identified as Carlos Escué, who was a singer in a musical group, and Fernando Trochez Ulcué, a signatory of the peace agreement with the FARC.

Defense Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo pointed out that the incident would be related to drug trafficking in the north of that department.

In order to identify those responsible for the events that occurred in the Gualanday sector, in the San Pedro village of the Monchique Los Tigres reservation, the Military Forces and the National Police activated a special intervention plan to combat drug trafficking and organized armed groups that commit crimes in Algeria, El Tambo and López de Micay.

“The objective is to neutralize the production enclaves and close the corridor for the transport of cocaine to the Pacific. The detection and destruction of laboratories for the processing of cocaine will be increased,” said Trujillo.

Finally, the head of the Defense portfolio reported that in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao the Pilot Project – Great Dialogue for the Future of Cauca will begin, in order to bring closer and improve the trust of ethnic and peasant communities, with the institutions and the Public Force.

For his part, Mauricio Capaz, human rights coordinator for the Association of Indigenous Cabildos del Norte del Cauca (ACIN), confirmed the facts.

“The first versions describe the arrival of two individuals on a motorcycle who opened fire on a person and, apparently, the other victims had intervened in the defense and that is why they ended up dead,” he said.

According to Capaz, two people died at the scene and another two in a health center to which they were referred. Also, there is an injured woman.

It should be remembered that this year, in Colombia, 309 people have died in 77 massacres (12 of them in Cauca), according to Indepaz.

Truth Commission rejected the fact

The Commission for the Clarification of the Truth of
Colombia, through a statement, rejected the massacre and other acts of violence that have occurred in the northern area of the department of Cauca.

“In less than 12 hours, between the night of December 5 and the early morning of December 6, in this territory there were 4 serious acts of violence: a massacre, two homicides of community members, among them, the son
of an indigenous leader, an individual threat to the coordinator of the Indigenous Guard and a collective threat to the Association of Cabildos del Norte del Cauca ACIN “, says the document.

According to this Commission, the events that have occurred are added to the 12 massacres that have taken place in this department so far this year.

“The north of Cauca is an area where various interests in dispute converge, ranging from illegal economies to land tenure. In its extensive listening process, the Truth Commission has collected information that shows the multiple alliances armed, economic and political actors in the region, which perpetuate the causes
of the armed conflict. It is not just a problem of drug trafficking, that is why the integral intervention of the State and the strengthening of social and community initiatives to protect life are required, in the face of the onslaught of the violent, “they pointed out.

Finally, the Commission for the Clarification of the Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition of Colombia expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.
