“Mom, Dad, I love them, but I have to follow the man in the hood,” that was the last message a 10-year-old left before launching from an eleventh floor in Naples, Italy. The minor was prey to nightmares from the influence of a social media challenge called ‘Jonathan Galindo’.

The ‘viral game’ begins after a friend request on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok from an account of a man disguised as Goofy (Tribilín), who uses the name Jonathan Galindo. After being accepted, he begins to propose challenges with increasing difficulties. Challenges include self-harm.

According to the hypothesis of the authorities, the account ‘Jonathan Galindo’ would have forced the little Italian boy to jump into the void.

This web challenge started in the United States and then in Europe. He first reached Spain, then Germany and finally Italy, where he would claim his first fatality. This phenomenon is reminiscent of other ‘games’ on the networks such as the ‘blue whale’. This type of request is normally directed at a young and influential public, so it puts parents on alert again.

The child’s parents assure that he was a happy and calm child like his sister and that they are a family full of love and without problems. They never noticed what their son was going through.

The event occurred while the parents were sleeping. At one in the morning they notified the authorities when they noticed the absence of the minor. A short time later they realized what had happened.

Police seized a mobile phone and a game console that the minor had used to initiate an investigation. They also listened to the victim’s friends for clues to what happened.

Remember to be especially careful with your children’s activity on social networks.
