Chinese Military Approves COVID-19 Vaccine for Use in Troops

This is a way to test a new vaccine on millions of people, whether they like it or not. China’s military has approved a COVID-19 vaccine to use on its soldiers, according to the Reuters news agency. The vaccine was developed by the Chinese Army Research Unit and CanSino Biologics, a biotechnology firm based in Hong Kong; It has also been approved for human testing in Canada. CanSino said in a presentation that the Chinese Central Military Commission approved the use of the vaccine by the military for a period of one year. The move effectively means that China can test its vaccine on many of its 2.28 million military that it sees fit. However, Beijing has yet to say how widely it intends to use the vaccine. CanSino also said in the presentation that clinical trials have shown that its vaccine has a “good safety profile” and a potential to prevent COVID-19, according to The Guardian. However, the company cautioned that there is no guarantee that its vaccine is commercially available.
