Anyone watching the Eagles’ losing streak to the Seahawks on Monday could say that quarterback Carson Wentz will not be able to pass the eye test in 2020. But Wentz’s stats are comparable this season to those of Brett Fawcett and Payton Manning – and not well.
After 11 games, Ventez has completed 58.1 percent of his passes in 2,541 yards with 165 touchdowns and 15 league-leading intercepts. Its passenger rating is sitting at 73 at .., below the league average. And that’s well below Wentz’s last three seasons combined with a rating of 98.3.
That’s where the comparison of favor and manning comes in. Wentz is the sixth quarterback since 1950, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network and NFL Research Passenger rating drops 24 points Below its combined rating in the previous three seasons. He is also the first quarterback to do so under the age of 30.
Other quarterbacks on the list? At age 38, Y.A. Tittle dropped 42.2 points in 1964. Manning dropped 39.9 points to 39 in 2015. If thisman dropped to 32.0 points in 1985, it was 36. Mark Ripian dropped 26.3 points in 1993 to 31. and Favre dropped 41.8 points in 2010.
All of those quarterbacks retired after their drop-season except Ripion.
No one expects Wentz to hang it after 2020, but the quarterback must make significant improvements going forward.
