Call of Duty 2020 may be hidden in Activision’s new “Red Door” game list

We know a new Call of Duty game for 2020 is officially on the way, but Unusually, Activision hasn’t announced it yet even though it’s now July. But a Microsoft Store listing has come up for a new, unannounced Activision shooting game that may actually be linked to this year’s Call of Duty.

The list calls the game The Red Door, which was seen last month in the PlayStation SerialStation serial database, according to PC Gamer. The accompanying content ID also suggests that a Call of Duty 2020 alpha is coming, though Activision hasn’t publicly addressed the matter.

The list has not yet been removed, which could indicate that it is intended to be live as a preview. But it reveals very little about the game, other than that Activision is the publisher, it will weigh roughly 82GB on Xbox One, it is rated as mature and it will be some sort of shooter (although it is unclear what type it is). The description of the game is also vague: “There is more than one truth. If you are looking for answers, be prepared to question everything and accept that nothing will ever be the same. The Red Door awaits, do you dare to go through it?”

There is no official confirmation that The Red Door is connected to Call of Duty 2020. However, with Activision sitting in the editor’s seat and with The Red Door mentioned in previous Call of Duty entries: “Paint it Black” by The Rolling Stones, “which was used in the Black Ops 3 reveal teaser, begins its lyrics with a red door reference: the two are likely to be associated in some way.

Typically, Activision announces its Call of Duty titles in May, with a gameplay reveal during the next E3 showcase. However, with 2020 interrupted by the growing coronavirus pandemic, the Call of Duty 2020 presentation seems a bit unusual this year. Most Call of Duty games arrive between October and November, so it’s strange that Activision hasn’t officially announced anything about this year’s entry yet.

Call of Duty 2020 will still arrive this year, although when and for which platforms is still uncertain at this time. According to a professional Call of Duty player, this year’s entry is being developed by the Black Ops Treyarch studio and will reportedly lead players into the Cold War.
