A printer at a university is using his work to print counterfeit money totaling more than 8 million euros, Sofia city prosecutor Iliana Kirilova said.

The man printed the money in college, assisted by a woman who was also a printing press. In one of the rooms a total of $ 4 million and 3.6 million euros were found. The printing machine was sealed, photographic plates were seized for euros, excise stamps, car registration certificate, thread for 50 euros.

So far it is not known from the university that they knew of the illegal activity. There is evidence that various other forgeries have been made on the machine, such as health books.

A 48-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were arrested and charged. They are part of a more serious organization for the export of money, said the head of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime Lyubomir Yanev, but declined to elaborate. The anti-mafia worked alongside the Secret Service, he said.

The two worked to order and received 10% of the quantity produced. They printed the money after hours and on weekends.

The two have been detained for up to 72 hours and will be asked for their permanent arrest. They have no prior criminal record.

Earlier in the day, the number one prosecutor, Ivan Geshev, gave information on the speculation: read and HERE.
