Greece is preparing for a complete shutdown due to the coronavirus. The measure is being proposed to the authorities by epidemiologists in the country due to the changing situation of the coronavirus for hours, BNR reported.
Greek media reported that the country is expected to be placed in full quarantine starting Saturday morning for the next three weeks. The decision will be announced during an official statement by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday. Even tougher measures must be implemented across the country to curb the growing spread of the coronavirus, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias told Greek media.
He said the prime minister had adopted a plan proposed by the health ministry to limit the spread of Covid-19. Greek epidemiologists are demanding a full quarantine for a month, starting Friday, across the country at night and allowed to leave their homes only with confirmed permission from the authorities. At the same time, according to media reports, the government is likely to allow the quarantine for a period of three weeks. The restrictions on the expected national quarantine will be in line with the one already implemented in Thessaloniki and Serres.
In Greece, there are no comments on the closure of the border after Prime Minister Mitsotakis announced that entry to the country will be available under the conditions set so far: address of residence and negative test for coronavirus. Greece registers a record number of new infected with Covid-19: 2,646 per day. Most of them are in Thessaloniki – 823. Already 70% of the beds in the specialized wards for coronavirus patients are occupied, according to information from the Greek Ministry of Health. One more day, the northern regions of Drama, Kavala and the Rhodope region are in a critical situation. The health department of our southern neighbor reports that there is an organization for the transfer of patients from northern Greece to other areas, where they can be accommodated in specialized hospitals.
