China says there are no new infections within the country, after two consecutive days of double-digit increases and amid fears of a second wave of infections, AFP reported.

China has largely controlled the virus, but remains on the brink, fearing that a second wave may undermine efforts to rebuild and unleash the economy. A new outbreak was again recorded over the weekend in Wuhan City, where the pandemic broke out, while the city of Shulan, in the northeast of the country, was blocked on Sunday after another outbreak.

On Monday, the Chinese National Health Commission announced 17 new cases, five in Wuhan. 7 of the new cases were imported. A day earlier, China announced the first double-digit increase in cases across the country in nearly 10 days, saying 14 new infections had been confirmed. No deaths were reported for 27 consecutive days. The official number of deaths in the country remains 4,633, while the total number of infections on the continent is 82,919.
