The PCR test will give way to rapid tests, said Lyubomira Nikolaeva-Glomb, head of the virology department at the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, in an interview with BNT.
“In our center, validations are carried out to see how reliable a rapid test is. I dare say that rapid tests are a good solution at the moment,” said the health expert.
According to her, PCR tests can immediately understand what stage of infection the patient is in.
“We are working on this methodology,” added Nikolaeva-Glomb.
The extreme sensitivity of the PCR test currently puts a strain on the system, brings many people into contact and, in fact, not all are so infected, he added.
“My opinion from a virologist is that the reliability of rapid antigenic tests is very good,” said the expert.
Most people keep their antibodies for at least 5 months; that’s what science says right now. Immunodeficiency conditions are relatively rare, almost everyone has a healthy immune system, Nikolaeva-Glomb is inflexible.
During these 10 months, teams were formed that investigated and found that the mask protects and reduces risk significantly, he explained.
“An indoor study was also done on what happens if there is a sick and healthy person who communicates. In a room of 10 square meters, at a height of 3 m, the other person has a chance of becoming infected only after 80 minutes, if ventilation is correct. So there is a degree of risk, that’s why measures are taken ”, said the health expert.
According to Nikolaeva-Glomb, about 40 million are inactive cases, of which 29 people have likely been infected again. Some of these cases have been closely monitored. The first person to be reinfected was a Chinese IT specialist, after recovering, he visited Spain and Latin America on business and then returned to China.
“There (China) has a very strict control: everyone who enters undergoes a two-week quarantine, then is examined by a PCR test, which finds that they are reinfected again,” explained the specialist about the risk of reinfection with the dangerous infection.
At the Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, people work to the limit, said the expert.
“We are the reference laboratory: we receive between 600 and 700 samples every day, and most of the time they are processed the same day,” added Nikolaeva-Glomb.
