The first attempt at negotiation between police officers seeking an increase in their salaries and Interior Minister Hristo Terziiski failed. At the meeting, to which the largest trade union organization, the SFSMVR, was invited, no proposal was made to the protesters. Terziiski only said he could guarantee a 10% increase in salaries next year. Anyway, this is in the budget.
“When you go to negotiations, you usually have a proposal. They had no suggestion”, Commented a participant of the meeting.
Protests
Due to the failure of negotiations with the leadership, the SFSMVR will organize a national protest on November 8. It will take place in the garden next to the Ministry of the Interior building. Meanwhile, local protests continue: in the next few days there will be in Pleven and Pernik.
The Ogneborets firefighters union said it will meet with the interior minister on Tuesday. Last week, they also announced that they were ready to protest.
Percentages
Police are unhappy as only a 10% increase is planned for them, and months ago the government allowed more than 30 administrations to increase their salaries by up to 30%, arguing that they were involved in addressing the coronavirus crisis.
“It is very interesting that the draft budget itself establishes that a 30% increase has been foreseen in the salaries of all the systems and personnel of the administrations that are dedicated to managing and overcoming the consequences of the pandemic. De facto and de jure, this means that for the Council of Ministers and for our ministry, all employees of the Ministry of the Interior system up to now and in the future, do not participate in this process.“Iliya Kuzmanov, vice president of SFSMVR, told BNT.
Hours earlier, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov announced that the Interior Ministry would help with equipment for emergency doctors in Sofia. Police cars will be involved in transporting coronavirus patients because the ambulance does not have enough resources.
Late last week, Terziiski announced that more than 33,000 people are currently in quarantine in the country. Part of the job of the police is to monitor whether these people comply with their isolation or not.
