Russia has registered the version of the coronavirus vaccine “Sputnik Light”, which will be administered in a single dose, the Ministry of Health announced today, TASS reported.
Last week, Russia said it had completed clinical trials of a “light” version of the coronavirus vaccine, a “temporary solution” to help countries with high infection rates, BGNES reported.
Moscow has said that the two-dose Sputnik V vaccine will remain the main vaccine for use in Russia, with just over four million Russians vaccinated with both doses in Russia so far and another two million vaccinated with the first dose. In total, only about four percent of the Russian population is vaccinated, lagging behind vaccination levels in other countries, such as the United States or the United Kingdom.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, 68, was vaccinated last Tuesday, but which vaccine is unknown. Yesterday he explained his decision to get vaccinated without television cameras, saying that he “doesn’t want to look stupid” in front of the cameras, but still asked Russians to get vaccinated.
