Five hospitals in Plovdiv refused to treat a woman suspected of COVID-19, she died

The 49-year-old woman died after several Plovdiv hospitals refused to accept her for treatment, her relatives say. He died in the last hospital he could get to.

Mirella’s mother showed symptoms of a runny nose and cough, but it worsened on the third day. The GP referred them to an ambulance on suspicion that she was infected with COVID-19. After two tests and an antibiotic, the 49-year-old’s family members decided to visit the emergency department at St. George’s University Hospital. But from there they are fired.

“They said there were no places at the Infectious Diseases Clinic and they sent us to Transportna, and they didn’t even examine her there,” said Mirela Bochukova, daughter of the deceased.

The explanation is that the severe chronic lung disease cases were handled solely by St. George Hospital. There the other medical establishments sent their doctors. “We started walking with her through the hospitals at 5:00 p.m. At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, she was received. It is almost 18 hours,” says daughter Mirela. Finally, the woman was admitted to the St. Panteleimon, where he died within hours of admission. Only then did it become clear that his COVID-19 test was negative.

“The cause is cardiac arrest and respiratory failure. Unfortunately, she had an accompanying chronic disease, which also had its impact on the general condition of the woman,” explained Dr. Konstantin Sapundzhiev, director of MHAT “St. Panteleimon ”.

St. George University Hospital said in their post that they performed two exams on the patient and did a PCR test. Due to the lack of free beds, they informed the Emergency Service that they could not accept it. The Plovdiv Health Inspectorate carried out an inspection. He found that the hospitals did not have resuscitation equipment. The reason is that they are on call at the Infectious Disease Clinic.
