Minister Angelov: 20,000 packages of the most wanted drugs enter the market
The strengthening of hospitals and the provision to the country of all necessary drugs continues. The number of people recovering from COVID-19 is increasing, with more serious pressure on the health system in the regional centers of Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Burgas and Shumen. This was reported to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov by Health Minister Kostadin Angelov at today’s working meeting in the Council of Ministers. The meeting was also attended by the President of the National Operational Headquarters and Head of the Military Medical Academy Ventsislav Mutafchiiski, the Director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and staff member Todor Kantardzhiev, the Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev and the Director of Pirogov Asen Baltov.
Health Minister Kostadin Angelov noted that an organization has been created for the five busiest regional centers to increase the capacity of the hospital, as well as for the inclusion of specialists on site, who will also provide assistance. The president of the National Operational Headquarters and head of the Military Medical Academy, Ventsislav Mutafchiiski, said that 4 more clinics are opening for the treatment of covid in the Military Medical Academy.
Regarding the supply of medicines, Minister Angelov insisted that all medical institutions receive the necessary medicines. According to him, the problem is the stockpiling of people with drugs, adding that 20,000 additional packages of the most sought after drugs will enter the free market. Medications are also provided for pregnant women. Everyone present at the meeting with Prime Minister Borissov confirmed his position that self-medication is absolutely dangerous and Bulgarian citizens should seek medical help and not use antibiotics indiscriminately. Regarding the activity of pharmacies, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov ordered the Minister of Health to meet with representatives of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union to discuss what are the additional opportunities in the field.
During the meeting, reservations were expressed regarding the massive tests. According to the Chief Inspector of State Health, Prof. Angel Kunchev, this would only give a “snapshot”, which, however, will be different after 24 hours. On the issue of human resources, Kunchev expressed the position that it is of great importance that the Minister of Health can send staff. For antigen testing at the meeting, the view was shared that its use is appropriate for emergency care, hospitals, RHI, in cases where there is a limited resource of PCR testing or when testing larger groups of people.
Prime Minister Boyko Borissov insisted that citizens can help both themselves and the health system if they continue to adhere to the established basic principles: disinfection, distance and discipline. “I trust people: we can be more disciplined, we can be more self-conservative. At the same time, we have recovered quite a bit, which is also a good indicator,” Borissov said. According to him, compliance with the measures is of the utmost importance to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the personal responsibility of each one, along with reasonable and balanced measures will help to overcome the crisis.
