Kunchev on Christmas shopping: if it continues like this, we will also close the department stores

“I don’t like what I see. If things in these department stores continue in this way, we will expand the measures in them as well,” said state health inspector Angel Kunchev on social media videos, which show a large crowd in front of large gift and toy stores.

In recent days many shots have appeared on the Internet, clearly showing the uncontrolled concentration of large groups of people in the Jumbo chain of stores. There were images of queues and without keeping a distance from the Christmas bazaar in the garden in front of the National Theater in Sofia. The situation was similar in large grocery stores.

“I cannot understand the philosophy of why there is no RHI representative who fines and controls.” OMG does anyone have to turn their heads to tell you it’s dangerous? “Angel Kunchev was outraged.

He is adamant that if these department stores turn out to be COVID-19 outbreaks, they will be closed. “It is the responsibility of the owners and managers of these retail chains. They have to take action, otherwise they will stop working,” Kunchev said.

Do the measures work?

The state’s chief health inspector said there was a slight drop in morbidity in the country and that these were the first signs that the stricter measures were working.

“We are on top of the wave at the moment. Mortality and hospitalizations go back two to three weeks. Then we will see if there is any effect,” Kunchev said.

Regarding whether any measures will be withdrawn after December 21, Kunchev commented that the situation should be monitored. “If the measures work, we know how important kindergartens and kindergartens are, it makes sense for them to open. But we will see if the cafes and restaurants work,” he said.

Kunchev added that it is up to society what will be open and what will not. “If we behave irresponsibly … I don’t want to give examples, but we have to get to the police methods of Turkey, where you can’t stick your nose out on weekends. It depends on the behavior of the people,” he said.
