Greece is pushing for a speedy return to the free movement of citizens in Europe with an unofficial document sent to the European Commission, the Political portal reported, quoted by Greek Sky television.
However, Athens does not support the full opening of the borders to all.
Restoring free movement in Europe is on the European Commission’s agenda on Wednesday, and a “gradual process” is expected. Restoring freedom of movement is one of the five steps proposed by the Commission to give people some hope for the summer months.

“Our goal is to make efforts to re-allow travel between EU countries before June 15 where possible,” said a Greek document submitted to the European Commission on Monday, received by Politician.
Athens wants “fair treatment” of all potential passengers to avoid “any subjective attitude towards citizenship” in the travel protocols.
“We cannot allow the fragmentation of the single market in the case of tourism services,” said the document, which called for people to be allowed to travel and then return home quickly and easily: there should be no “Quarantine or other requirements for disproportionate or prohibitive returns. “
Athens wants a “common understanding” at the EU level that all passengers should be tested for coronavirus or antibody three days before travel. The document says that, alternatively, tests will not be required “to travel between regions … which have shown clear and stable evidence that the coronavirus situation is under control.”
However, there is another specific request on the one hand with islands that cannot be accessed by car. “There can be no discrimination or differentiation in terms of means of transportation,” says Athens. “Road, air, sea and other travel will have to start at the same time with the relevant protocols. We cannot allow the most distant member states of our Union to be delayed.”
On planes, all seats must be filled, the document says, because vacant midsize seats don’t provide cost-effectiveness and their health benefits are questionable.
