In an attempt to buy time, GERB, United Patriots and Will set up a temporary committee in parliament to discuss and analyze Boyko Borissov’s draft party constitution for two months. GERB’s Desislava Atanasova was elected president, who was briefly Minister of Health during the first term when Borissov described her as “the heavy artillery of the party.”
In essence, the committee can only hold discussions, as a new constitution is only adopted by the Grand National Assembly and 160 votes will not be gathered in this parliament to convene it.
BSP and MRF are against the draft constitution, the convocation of the Grand National Assembly and the establishment of the commission, so they refused to participate in it.
According to the opposition, the goal of the commission is to hit the ball to keep Borissov in power. The Prime Minister’s request was that the decision to convene a Grand National Assembly be taken two months after the presentation of the draft constitution, that is. early November. However, the commission will run until at least early December.
The commission also includes Krassimir Tsipov and Toma Bikov from GERB, Iskren Veselinov, Boris Yachev and Hristian Mitev from United Patriots and Simeon Naidenov, Plamen Hristov and Elena Pesheva from Volia. Spas Panchev will also participate as a representative of non-members in parliamentary groups, which was proposed by GERB.
The debates on the project to create a commission took place on Thursday and the BSP announced that it is an absurd, harmful and dangerous measure.
