The record number comes ahead of Friday’s planned government meeting to discuss new local closures to slow the spread of the infection.
French authorities reported 9,843 new confirmed cases, nearly 900 more than the previous record set six days earlier.
Since the beginning of the month, new cases have averaged 7292 per day, while in August, when the indicator was also record, the daily average was 3003.
After falling to a low of 4,530 on Aug.28, the number of people hospitalized with Kovid-19 rose again, reaching 5,096 on Thursday, the highest in more than a month.
Patients housed in intensive care units reached 615, a level not recorded since the end of June, BTA reported.
The number of hospitalized patients so far is far from the values reached in April, but it is creating new tensions in the health system that could prompt the authorities to take action.
