Fandakova: I assigned the organization of the COVID zone in Sofia

This Sunday alone, 1,252 people have been hospitalized in Sofia, 141 of them in intensive care units. The growth compared to Saturday is 84. This shows enormous pressure on Sofia hospitals and as much as the number of beds and capacity increases, we cannot afford to put hospitals in this situation. That is why I assigned the creation of a COVID zone with DCCs, in which patients can receive an examination and tests and an X-ray, said the mayor of the capital, Yordanka Fandakova, in an extraordinary briefing with the Minister of Health , Kostadin Angelov.

This is something DCCs can organize quickly. I hope their inclusion will start in stages by the end of the week, Fandakova added.

We have reached an agreement with the government to provide additional government funding for all doctors and nurses working in these COVID areas, announced the Mayor of Sofia.

This will reduce the pressure on hospitals and create the link that was missing until now. Patients who will be sent to these areas will be examined and the jeep will assess their treatment at home, where possible, and where it is not, they will be referred by ambulance to hospitals, Fandakova explained.

We have included DCC to reassure people, but the main burden of diagnosis remains on general practitioners. “They will be the first sieve and the second sieve will be these cabinets, because we run the risk of forming large queues in front of these cabinets,” said Fandakova.

The mayor of Sofia again asked citizens to observe the measures and to respect the doctors, noting that the control has been strengthened.

According to her, the measures are sufficient and if we follow them, there will be a decrease in the number of infected, but if the upward trend continues with new cases, there is another measure that can be taken and it will be in terms of lower secondary education in schools where there are a concentration of people and a risk of spreading the infection. In this sense, the Minister of Education has given freedom not only at the municipal level, but also at the level of individual schools.
