The BGN 5 million support for culture after a conversation with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov was announced by Line Minister Boil Banov at a press conference at the Cabinet.

New theatrical productions will be created: with 500,000 BGN, the same amount goes towards new music and dance productions, and another 500,000 BGN for a completely new program: projects in the field of visual arts.

With 800,000 BGN, a program for the distribution of theatrical, musical and dance arts will open a little later, that is, for a ready-to-use product, Banov explained.

He recalled that so far BGN 2.5 million has been provided for culture. Banov added that 700,000 BGN in the Culture Fund will be for single artists and their goal is to provoke a performance through the Internet.

He noted that the Fund has BGN 1.9 million separately for projects and programs, some of which have already started.

As a sign that life is beginning to return to normal, the Minister of Culture adopted the new order of the Minister of Health Kiril Ananiev starting today, which allows attendance at galleries, museums, cinemas in compliance with the measures of health and filling capacity up to 30%.

When asked exactly how the outdoor performances would be carried out, he said that it was absurd to bring masked artists and gave the bands a chance to solve the problem. Banov noted that, for example, in individual shows, more camera titles could be encouraged. However, the minister said that it would be calmer for the viewer due to the measures being taken.

It is too early to talk about theaters, operas, indoor philharmonics, he added, adding that for cinemas this is allowed because there are no artists on stage.

The Minister of Culture recalled that until now the state has taken over the maintenance of cultural institutes, since there is no reduction in budgets in conditions of coronary crisis. Banov clarified that other support measures are being discussed, depending on the dynamics of the situation.

Currently we are like a newborn, looking for the right solutions, he explained.

In the last two months, artists and cultural operators have developed and proposed a package of measures. to support the independent sector in conditions of complete blocking of opportunities for creative activity.

Its implementation depends directly on the increase in the budget of the Ministry of Culture with part of the European funds to face the crisis. The EU has identified culture as one of the 5 priority sectors that need urgent action, and the European Commission and the European Parliament have repeatedly called on national governments to pay special attention to it.

We strongly oppose attempts to jeopardize continued dialogue between the independent sector and the ministry, as well as to oppose one guild to another. The moment requires maximum consolidation, not deleting personal accounts. We believe that we have the opportunity to emerge from the crisis with new opportunities and programs in line with European good practices. We call on the Bulgarian government to heed the calls of the European institutions and to support the Ministry of Culture in its team’s efforts to find suitable solutions to support artists from all fields of art.

The sector remains united behind the opportunity for rapid and focused dialogue and action in line with the European perspective and efforts to face the crisis.
