A record number of deaths related to the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours have been reported in Greece: 108, Reuters reported, citing health authorities.
In this context, hospitals in the northern part of the country are under pressure, as the bed capacity of the intensive care units is full.
After imposing a two-month national quarantine in March, the Greek government imposed a second quarantine in late November following a surge in new infections in October. Yesterday, however, government spokesman Stelios Pezas acknowledged that lifting the quarantine from December 1 now did not seem realistic at all.
More than 2,300 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Greece in the last 24 hours. Thus, the total number of infected registered in the country has exceeded 90,100.
1,527 people died.
The number of cases in the great city of northern Greece, Thessaloniki, is almost double that in the capital, Athens, clarifies BTA.
