The new strain of coronavirus, which was originally found in Britain, has also been detected in Turkey, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was quoted as saying by BTA.

The new strain has been found in 15 people who came to Turkey from Great Britain.

Turkish authorities have banned people from the UK from entering the country.

So far, this has eliminated the danger of the emergence of the new strain, which is spreading 70 times faster than previously known strains, the Minister of Health said.

12,203 new cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in Turkey in the last 24 hours, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.

For the first time in almost two months, health authorities have reported a drop in the number of infected.

There has been a decrease in the number of victims of the coronavirus: 1,212 people have died in the last 24 hours, while in previous days they exceeded 240 people.

Since March last year until now, 21,039 people in Turkey have died from the pandemic, and the total number of infected has reached 2,220,855, according to the Turkish Ministry of Health.

3,891 are seriously ill to date.

Minister Fahrettin Koca said they expected a downward trend in the spread of the pandemic.
