IN Indian authorities are investigating the cause of an unidentified illness that led to the hospitalization of more than 140 people over the weekend, the BBC reports. Local media reported that the patients were tested for COVID-19 and all tested negative.
A medical official at Eluru Government Hospital told The Indian Express: “People who have become ill, especially children,
they suddenly started vomiting after complaining of burning eyes. Some of them passed out
or had seizures. “
Many of the hospitalized patients recovered quickly and were discharged.
Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Ala Kali Krishna Srinivas said no traces of viral infection were found in the patients’ blood samples.

“We dismissed water or air pollution as a reason after officials visited areas where people got sick,” he said.
