Starting this afternoon, the Coordination Center for the distribution of patients with COVID-19 in medical institutions in Sofia will begin to operate.
“All patients suspected of COVID-19, who have sought emergency medical care in the capital, from today will go through the Coordination Center, open on the territory of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases. This also applies to citizens of the Sofia region, which need hospitalization in Sofia. medical establishments with a higher level of competition and where there is suspicion of coronavirus infection, “announced the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Boyko Penkov, who was at the scene, who with the CSMP-Sofia Director Dr. Georgi Gelev, RHI-Sofia Director Dr. Dancho Penchev explained how the new structure will work.
“Dr. Penchev was the main driving force behind the construction of this coordination center, Dr. Gelev is in full coordination with him, since the ambulance teams will always pass through here in advance to specify each patient and direct them to what more – the right place where it can be treated, ”Penkov noted.
The focal point will attend to patients with COVID-19 or with suspected infection. This applies to citizens whose health is not urgent.
“All patients with symptoms of the new coronavirus will be transferred to the Team Coordination Center of the Emergency Medical Care Center. Citizens will be consulted by medical specialists, including an epidemiologist, and after assessing their health, they will be referred. to a specific medical institution or for home treatment. Experience assistance from Center employees will be provided by Infectious Diseases Hospital physicians. In this way, hospitalization time will be shortened and patients will be guaranteed timely and quality medical care, including diagnoses, “explained RHI-Sofia director Dr. Dancho Penchev.
The objective is to shorten the time from the presentation of the signal to the National System 112 until admission to a medical institution and thus guarantee patients the best possible medical and professional care, said CSMP Director Sofia Dr. Georgi Gelev.
If necessary, patients will undergo a rapid test or PCR to detect coronavirus infection. Until the results of the PCR test are published, patients will be hospitalized in the so-called “buffer zone” on the territory of the Hospital for Infectious Diseases, where constant medical supervision is provided, Dr. Penchev said.
A doctor, a nurse, a nurse and an epidemiologist will be on a daily shift at the Coordination Center, and experts from the regional health inspections in Sofia and the Sofia region will be available.
