The Sofia City Court ordered the permanent arrest of 39-year-old Indian citizen Sid Hart Singh, for which an Air France plane made an emergency landing at Sofia airport at the request of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office .
The passenger behaved aggressively, a crime according to art. 341a, para. 3, supra para. 1 of the Penal Code. He was arguing with the other passengers on the plane and attacked a crew member, but was disarmed on the plane. As a result, the French airline flight made an emergency landing at Sofia airport. Border police officers detained the Indian citizen there. The reasons for his behavior are being clarified.
Prosecutors accused him of endangering the lives and health of passengers during the flight. The pre-trial proceedings in the case began after on March 5, 2021, the defendant endangered the safety of the aircraft that was flying from Paris to Delhi. The man was rampaging, showing aggression for attacking passengers from the cabin and a crew member. “As a result of his actions, the captain of the plane decided to divert the flight and make an emergency landing at the Sofia airport,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.
At today’s court hearing on the determination of a restraint measure, the Indian citizen showed a lack of respect. He did not stop speaking aloud in the courtroom and did not want to remain silent to start the case. Therefore, after repeated warnings, the court dismissed the defendant, who was removed by the agents of the General Directorate of Security and will be returned to the courtroom to read the judicial decision on his measure.
Witnesses, the flight commander and crew members, were questioned in the case. In his testimony, they stated that the foreigner had shown indecent behavior towards the passengers, for which he was reprimanded. So SS went to the cockpit, hit its walls, attacked one of the pilots.
During the meeting, it was also learned that the man hit a butler in time and knocked on the cabin door. He also threatened a crew member with breaking his arm. According to the testimony of passengers and crew, the Indian caused panic on the plane, which endangered the safety of the flight.
The court recognized that if the Indian citizen was not physically restrained, he would pose a danger to society and himself. Noting that his mental state has not been clarified, despite the documents presented by the official defender, that the man suffered from a psychological disorder due to the loss of family members in 2019.
The court ordered the prosecution to order a psychiatric examination.
The ruling of the Sofia City Court is subject to appeal and protest within 3 days.
