“Unfortunately, the situation in Hanau has changed so much that we now have to use the containers that we had placed here since April, initially as a precaution,” said Alexandra Kinski, who runs cemeteries and crematoriums in Hanau, a city not far from the financial capital. of Germany Frankfurt.

According to her, two corpses have already been placed in the metal container, which has space for a total of 25, adding that the corpses are stored there only for a short period after people’s deaths.

“If a person dies and there is no place in the health facility, the body of the deceased arrives here and stays for a while until it is placed in the final place where it will rest, for example here in the cemetery,” he said.

Germany, which was praised for dealing with the first wave of the pandemic in the spring, has been under strict quarantine since yesterday due to a sharp increase in the number of infections and deaths during the second wave.

With more than 1.4 million cases of infection reported since the start of the pandemic and more than 24,000 deaths from COVID-19, there is growing concern that hospitals will not be able to cope.
