Mal Martin, 58, spent 61 days on ventilation after being taken to hospital in critical condition in March. In the course of the struggle for life, the man lost sight in his right eye and four fingers on his hands, adds Nova TV.
Martin, who has been recovering at home since July, said a nurse held his hand overnight after he was put into an artificial coma during his hospital stay.
“I have severe dizziness, lung problems and my kidneys only work at 12%,” he said.
The man is diabetic, but has never had serious health problems before. “When he was ventilated, he had a lot of hallucinations and saw masks all the time,” the patient recalled.
His wife, Sue Martin, and their children had 10 minutes to say goodbye to him before he slipped into a coma. Doctors now describe his recovery as a “miracle.”
