Veliko Tarnovo Pulmonary Hospital remains without doctors

Veliko Tarnovo pulmonary hospital is in urgent need of doctors for its Covid ward, otherwise it may close after the New Year. There are sick doctors, as well as doctors who have given notice to leave, warned their manager, Dr. Stella Dencheva, reports BNR.

The situation at the “Dr. Treiman” municipal lung hospital is extremely worrying due to the lack of doctors and the constantly growing number of patients. The Covid ward treats 19 patients, there are other patients with nonspecific lung diseases, as well as patients with tuberculosis.

With eight doctors needed, there are only three in the hospital, which doom her, said manager Dr. Stella Dencheva:

“I am even very worried about what will happen from the beginning of next year, because then there is a possibility that even the hospital will close. Colleagues do not want to work with coronavirus patients,” she said.

Two doctors have already left and two more have been notified. According to Dr. Dencheva, the reason is that incentives to work on the front line can be obtained from an employer and some of the lung hospital doctors have an additional employment contract.

The hospital has notified medical universities and health authorities about the problem, and paid shift announcements have been made, but there are no candidates at this stage.
