The vast majority of people with symptoms have coronavirus, about 90%. So said Dr. Victoria Chobanova, President of the Association of General Practitioners of the Sofia region.

He explained that so far he had not detected the flu in his practice. He also commented on the GPs’ proposal to give an additional 1,000 BGN for the fight on the front line, describing it as an incentive to continue caring for their patients.

We have not stopped being at the forefront, since the beginning of the epidemic we have home treatment patients whom we control and treat, he said.

We are unable to organize electronic testing until the end of the week. I cannot issue them from personal physicians, added Dr. Chobanova.

He explained that many people with home treatment symptoms who do not have money for PCR are not included in the statistics, but are probably sick with COVID-19.

“I don’t know why in our country it is accepted that the diagnosis of coronavirus is made only by PCR, in medicine the diagnosis is made by anamnesis. Laboratory confirmation, we have some of the tests, which is PCR, “said the specialist.

Dr. Chobanova asked that the tests be free and clarified that since the beginning of the epidemic, general practitioners have insisted on this. He added that it is not true that anyone with complaints can get tested through the RHI, explaining that even doctors sometimes do not have access to free tests.

“What the minister announced that every patient with complaints can receive a test through the RHI is not true, some can do it, but not most people, including colleagues, do not have access to free tests.” said Dr. Chobanova.
