Turkey faces a serious test. The death toll has risen since the devastating earthquake that struck the Aegean Sea. According to the latest data, 51 people have already died. The large-scale rescue operation in Izmir continues for the third day. A total of more than 800 aftershocks shook the country, 26 buildings were badly damaged and must be demolished.

About 2,000 people are staying in various tent camps set up in various locations in Izmir. Some people only have clothes on their backs. NGOs provided blankets and food to the victims.
Inchi Okan, 16, was rescued under the rubble of a collapsed 8-story building 17 hours after the earthquake. Along with her, her dog Fistic was captured alive under the rubble.
“I’m very happy. Fortunately, my father was not at home. He could not fit into the crevice where I was hiding. He would hit his head. I am weak and small, so I saved myself. We were home with the dog. We are both fine.” Inchi Okan said.
She was visited in hospital by the Turkish Minister of Health and her rescuer, who took her by the hand during the operation to remove her.
“I promise to play the violin for you!” Inchi said.
Inci Okan is just one of many survivors of a powerful earthquake in Turkey. A young man was also pulled from the rubble of his home 33 hours after the earthquake.
Just 20 kilometers from the epicenter, a small town is trying to cope with the consequences. Sigachik residents say that some 30 ships in the port have been washed away by the tsunami more than 1 km out to sea.
“Suddenly, the boats on the shore began to bounce and make a loud noise. It was like a car accident. We went ashore and saw that the water was pushing them from the port towards the sea and pushing them against each other,” he says Demet Kara.
Secondary earthquakes continue in the Izmir region. The strongest was registered this morning with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale. Authorities warned citizens to be careful and avoid damaged buildings.
Late at night, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Izmir to learn of the damage from the devastating earthquake. After getting off the plane, he headed for the worst-affected neighborhood in the city, Bayrakli. He was accompanied by two of his ministers and the vice president of the ruling party. Erdogan spoke with rescue teams and met with citizens whose houses collapsed.
