The new director of the capital’s Alexandrovska Hospital, Professor Boris Bogov, gave a new signal that the situation with coronavirus patients is deteriorating.

“There are no free beds at Alexandrovska Hospital for those infected with coronavirus. As one of the largest medical institutions in the territory of Sofia and the country, we will have to open another COVID ward. It will have a capacity of about 25-30 beds. Yes the situation does not calm down after the New Year, we will also transform other rooms, “Bogov told Nova TV.

“There are two patients with coronavirus who have been referred to other hospitals. On Monday a new order from the Ministry of Health comes into force to terminate the scheduled admission. This is done in order to reveal extra beds,” explained the professor.

There are currently two intubated patients and five in the hospital’s intensive care unit. There are 14 infected doctors, but they are in good condition.

Professor Bogov also commented on whether the hospital uses the now famous drug Remdesivir, which was approved in the United States.

“Of course we use the medicine. However, it should not be given to all infected people. There are strict indications. So there is a lot of disagreement about whether it helps or not. Mild cases should not be treated in this way,” said the professor.

According to him, the coronavirus causes a lot of damage to the kidneys.

“The virus attaches itself to angiotensin receptors, which are found first in the lungs and secondly in the kidneys,” said the head of the hospital.
