A doctor from Vratsa and his father became the next victims of the coronavirus in our country, and both died in one day. Despite the best efforts of the doctors at St. Anna Hospital in Sofia, where Dr. Petranka Lishkovska was treated, she died yesterday morning and her father the day before.

Dr. Lishkovska was the head of the chemotherapy department at the Vratsa Oncology Center. In late September, the 54-year-old woman was admitted for treatment at the tube dispensary in Vratsa after a worsening condition and a positive PCR test. At her request, she was transferred to Sofia.

For two weeks, St. Anna worked around the clock to save her colleague, using every possible drug used in the treatment of COVID-19, including the blood plasma of a sick patient. However, the doctor had all possible complications and she was eventually killed.

His 84-year-old father was treated at Byala Slatina Hospital. The family arranged his funeral when news of Dr. Lishkovska’s death came. The double tragedy crushed him.

The oncology dispensary in Vratsa turned out to be a source of infection with 19 confirmed positive samples from the staff: three doctors, 13 nurses and 2 nurses. There are no infected patients, some of them are prescribed for home treatment.

Before entering the hospital, the deceased doctor was on sick leave, but she saw some of her colleagues. The nurse continued to go to work, even though her husband was infected, bTV reported. It became clear that some of the hospital staff refused to be tested.

Measures were immediately taken to disinfect all rooms and offices in the health facility. The management of the oncology clinic assures that in a week or two the situation will be controlled and the normal rhythm of work will be restored.
