Czech Health Minister Adam Voitech has resigned over rising coronavirus infections in the country, Reuters reported.

In recent weeks, the Central European country has recorded the second fastest spread of the virus in Europe, only after Spain. This led the minister to resign. Adam Vojtech said that he had done his best in his work and expressed his expectations that his successor would be in a better position to cope with the deteriorating situation of the epidemic in the Czech Republic.

Shortly before the summer, the Czech Republic lifted all restrictive measures taken during the first wave of COVID-19. An average of 193 new cases per 100,000 people have been recorded in the last two weeks, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. According to Johns Hopkins University in the Czech Republic, there are currently more than 49,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection.
