Atanas Mechev-Gargata from Razlog, scandalously decomposed, was arrested once again during a specialized police operation in Sofia. He was arrested along with Lyulin’s moneylender Ivo Pifa and his son Alexander. So far there is no official information on the action. According to unconfirmed information, they were detained for drugs and pressure and threats against debtors, reported struma.bg.

Gargata has a long criminal record and has been repeatedly detained by law enforcement. Last year he was sentenced by the Special Court to 4 years in prison for drug trafficking and distribution. Mechev was found guilty as the leader of a criminal group that distributed drugs in the territory of Razlog and Bansko. The group was arrested in Razlog during a specialized operation several years ago.

His accomplice Ivaylo Govedarev, who was accused of participating in the group, also received 4 years in prison in the same case. Slavcho Dzhupanov, who was also found to be using drugs (hemp, amphetamines and cocaine), was sentenced to five years in prison. The decision was not final and the defendants had the right to appeal their sentences. During his repeated arrests, Mechev was released due to heart problems. Probably a factor as to why they are doing so badly.

After this case, in the last year alone, Gargata was detained at least three more times, but was released again due to health problems. His last arrest was this spring, when he was arrested after breaking into a fast loan office in Sofia, but was released again.

Gargata was arrested at the end of 2018 in Dobrinishte during a drug distribution operation, about which Struma wrote. There, several other traders were arrested who, according to the state prosecutor, were acting as an organized criminal group in the territory of Razlog and Bansko. In this case, Gargata is accused of being the leader of a criminal group.

Mechev was twice arrested for vandalism after a highway scandal, and two years ago he was arrested after a gang rape report.
