Billie Eilish revealed that she was a huge fan of Taylor Swift’s “Picture to Burn” when she was a little girl, but until this year, she had no idea that it was a song from Swift’s catalog.
The singer put the song on the playlist for the latest episode of “Me and Daddy Radio,” the Apple Music show she records with her father, Patrick O’Connell. “Picture to Burn” was released as a single in 2008, after appearing on Swift’s debut album in the country in 2006, before her foray into pop stardom.
“I used to love this song when I was 4, no, probably older than that. Probably about 6,” Eilish shared.
“Taylor Swift had these wonderful country-pop crossover songs that had great stories to tell,” her father noted, as Billie softly sang the chorus for another Swift hit, “Love Story.”
“It’s crazy. It’s very rural,” said Eilish. “When I listen to it now, I’m like, wow. I didn’t fully realize how country it was. But at the time I loved this song because I thought it was really bad. I thought it was great and I mean, I just loved it.”
But then he admitted, “Actually, I didn’t know it was Taylor Swift until this year.”
Not only did Eilish not know that Taylor Swift sang “Picture to Burn”, but the young music star of the future also did not understand what Swift was singing about.
“I didn’t understand at all what an ‘image to burn’ meant,” he admitted. “The only ‘burn’ word I knew, that I thought he meant, was like when you burn a CD.”
