Biden quips to Fox News he decided on VP, campaign says it’s a joke

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden told Fox News on Saturday that he chose a running mate before following it up with a joke when asked who the choice was.

TJ Ducklo, the national press secretary of the Biden campaign, later tweeted that the exchange was “clearly a joke.”

“Once Vice President Biden has made a decision on who his running mate will be, he will know the American people,” he said.

When asked earlier by Fox News in Delaware whether he had a VP or not, Biden had said, “Yeh, I have.”

When Fox News asked who, Biden said “you” in response. It was initially unclear how serious Biden’s initial reaction, made during a bike ride in a state park, was.

Speculation is rife about who Biden may choose as his running mate, and an announcement is expected every day.

Both confidants who spoke with Axios say the last two candidates are California Senator Kamala Harris and Susan Rice, who served as national security adviser and ambassador to the United Nations under President Obama.

Last week, Biden told reporters that he would elect his party’s vice-presidential nominee by “the first week in August.” But a source familiar with the process told Fox News on Monday that “an announcement this week is likely not.”

With the August 17 start of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) approaching, a leading adviser to Biden said the former vice president would “spend time” with the controversies on the shortlist next week or so.
