Former BNP president Ziaur Rahman has been accused of violating the constitution, assisting the self-confessed murderers of the national father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to leave the country and appoint them to important posts. Those who aided Bangabandhu’s killers are also criminals. These criminals cannot obtain any honorable position, award or title. That is why the National Council of Freedom Fighters (Jamuka), an organization under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, has recommended the cancellation of Ziaur Rahman’s title. But the question now is when, how, in what process this Jamuka recommendation will be implemented.
According to the interested party, the government will have to publish the bulletin now to cancel the title. Jamuka’s recommendation will take effect after the publication of the gazette. With all the state facilities available to Ziaur Rahman it will also be canceled. But no one in charge can give a clear idea of when the process will end. It was not immediately clear which ministry would publish the bulletin. Many people have avoided the question by asking the responsible people. They say it is a sensitive issue, so there are no comments for now. Some say that only those who have given up the title have the power to cancel it. Although he wanted to know who gave him the title, he did not give the correct answer.
When asked about this, a deputy secretary of the cabinet department, on condition of anonymity, asked the Bengali Tribune reporter: “Did the cabinet department give the cabinet department the title in recognition of its contribution to the war of independence?” When asked which ministry he was given the title of, the deputy secretary said that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs was not formed then. Perhaps the matter was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense. When contacted to find out about this, several senior officials of the Ministry of Defense did not respond and avoided various excuses.
According to the Defense Ministry website, “The titles in Bangladesh’s war of independence are in the order of heroism: Bir Shrestha, Bir Uttam, Bir Bikram and Bir Pratik. These medals were awarded after the liberation war of 1971. The names of the recipients were announced in a notice published in an additional issue of the Bangladesh Gazette on December 15, 1973 ”.
It is known that the 72nd meeting of JAMUKA on Tuesday (February 9) in recognition of his important contribution to the war of liberation recommended the cancellation of the state title awarded to Ziaur Rahman after independence. After nearly 50 years of independence, Jamuka decided to revoke his state title. At the same time, it has been recommended to cancel the state titles of the confessed killers of Bangabandhu, Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Risaldar Mosleh Uddin.
So far, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has not received the minutes of the Jamuka meeting. After receiving the minutes of the Jamuka meeting, it is assumed that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will complete the rest of the process. That means they will publish the newsletter. Also in the past, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has published all kinds of bulletins on the removal of names from the list of heroic freedom fighters.
Sources said, but the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs cannot take responsibility for publishing the gazette directly, as this time the issue is sensitive. In this case, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs may request approval by presenting the opinion of the Ministry of Justice and the matter to the Cabinet. They’ll wait for Jamuka’s minutes. None of the ministers and secretaries of the Liberation War Ministry spoke of this.
When asked, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Rathindra Nath Dutt, said that since the matter is now in the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Gazette will be published by the Ministry of Liberation Affairs. the War of Liberation. But before that, the minutes of the Jamuka meeting will have to reach the ministry. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will make the following decision after consulting the Jamuka minutes.
In this regard, the director of Jamuka (deputy secretary), Selim Fakir, said that the minutes of the meeting decided by Jamuka will be sent to the Ministry very soon. The Ministry will implement this decision. This is the jurisdiction of the Ministry. If it is necessary to publish the gazette, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will also publish it.
In this regard, the Minister of Law, Anisul Haque, said: “There is no legal complication in canceling the title ‘Bir Uttam’ awarded to the founder and former president of BNP, Ziaur Rahman, in the liberation war.” He said, who has ruined the spirit of the Bangladesh liberation war by taking the name of freedom fighter, has any right to have the title? I ask this question to people. ‘
When asked about this, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said: “I still don’t know the matter.”
It is worth mentioning that the former president and founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman was one of the sectoral commanders of the liberation war. Ziaur Rahman’s involvement in the conspiracy to assassinate the Father of the Bangabandhu Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family has always been accused from the highest echelons of the Awami League. However, he was not charged in the case brought in connection with the murder of Bangabandhu.
