Police arrested Chandu Mia, the main defendant in the incident of raping a young woman while visiting a relative’s home in Chittagong.
He was arrested at a home in the Paienen area of the city on Tuesday morning.
Chandu Mia, known as the source of double-tiered police sub-inspector (SI) Mohammad Helal, who was fired last August, police sources said.
Double Mooring OC Sadeep Kumar Das Police Station said the main defendant, Chandu Mia, was arrested on the basis of confidential information.
The Double Mooring SI Nurul Islam Police Station told Jugantar that the victim came from Feni to visit her uncle’s home in Agrabad, Chittagong. A friend of her cousin took the girl home to Supariwalapara around 8pm on Sunday. Chandu Mia lives next door. At one point, Chandu Mia took the girl home and raped her.
He said two people were arrested in the area Monday morning on charges of assisting in the incident. They are Nuri Akhter and her husband Mohammad Antar.
The girl was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital overnight.
