A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident of beating a young man to death in Burimari, in Lalmonirhat, following rumors of insults to the Koran. On Friday morning, Deputy Commissioner Abu Jafar formed an inquiry committee headed by an additional district magistrate. Previously, the incident took place at Burimari Bazar Central Jame Mosque in Patgram Upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shahidunnabi Jewel, son of Abdul Wazed Miah from the Shalban Mistripara area of Rangpur. He is a former librarian at Rangpur Cantt Public School and College and a former student at Dhaka University. It is known that he became mentally unbalanced after being fired last year.
The district administration has formed a three-member investigative committee headed by Additional District Magistrate TMA Momin. You have been asked to submit the investigation report within the next three days. On the other hand, the RAB is also investigating the shadow.
Patgram Police Station OC Sumant Kumar Mohanty told reporters that preparations were under way to bring three separate cases against the victim’s family, assault on police and vandalism in the Parishad Union. No arrests have been made so far. Police are working to identify the culprits.
